Research is a big part of my work. To create the perfect event I need to make sure I’ve found the perfect item for my clients.
Many clients ask them simply to do that for them, research an element of their event. For clients when I am organising the entire event research is equally as important.
So what do I research and how do I go about it?
Research briefs vary massively at Consider It Done. From venues to caterers, portaloos to entertainment, you name it, I’ve probably looked for it! Recently I’ve been helping a client source various items for a wedding. So far I’ve been asked to find ‘posh’ loos, a jukebox, ice cream vans and pizza vans. I’ve found them all, offered different options to my client and now it is over to them to choose.
Whatever type of event I’m organising or helping find an element of, research is vital and will always form part of the process. In fact it is probably pretty much one of the first things I do after I’ve taken a brief from my clients.
So how do I go about researching? There are three main tools I use when researching. Firstly, I have an extensive supplier list; I couldn’t survive without it! It is made up of people I have worked with before or have come across on my travels. This is always my first port of call. If I draw a blank there, my second tool is to reach out to social media and my networking groups to ask for recommendations. This always achieves some fantastic results, someone will always know someone who does or has what I am looking for. I’m always so grateful to everyone. If that fails, then it is down to the trusty Internet. Where would I be without the power of Google? Probably tearing my hair out on a regular basis!! These tools make up the backbone of my research.
It may all sound rather simple, and sometimes it is, but when someone asks for chandeliers, two days before their event, well it’s not always that smooth a ride!
Research can be a time consuming process. It’s imperative to me that I fulfil my clients brief as best I can. I also like to provide more than one option so they have a choice. For me, finding exactly what they are looking for is so important. Sometimes, there needs to be some compromise, because I might not be able to find exactly what they are looking for, but fortunately that is rare. On occasion I’m able to find an alternative that is better than the client was hoping for!
Once a client has chosen, I can book everything for them, removing even more stress, or hand the reins over to them. I’m flexible in the way I work with people. That is a massive part of the service at Consider It Done.
So the next time you need something, anything for an event please do not hesitate to contact me via the contact button on the website. I look forward to the next unusual request!
